And now for something completely different............

An embroidered, appliqued, and beaded felt box (oh yes, made by moi) - a bit of a departure from my watercolors and mixed media works.  I was attempting to create a box that looked like an aquarium and each side and the top reflect different views of the same set of aquarium elements.  This is such a departure from most of my current work but it was great fun, and I am already planning another embroidered box.

AND then, inside the box is a new ruffled scarf that I am knitting - it's about half way done. The yarn is Araucania Itata Solid ( it is hand painted a pale moss green and has hits of pinks and reds through it) and the yarn is 70% wool, 15% silk, and 15% bamboo. It is a fingering weight and I am knitting with US no 2 Bryspun flexible needles (fantastic needles made in New Zealand).  What a joy to knit and to watch the ruffles curl and spin as it grows.

What are you creating today?

Angels among us

A little study in granulation of colors, especially burnt sienna, permanent rose, and cobalt blue, in an attempt to depict the weathered look of stone.

A study in yellow and red

This little painting is one in which I painted it totally without any pencil drawing - what fun it was to watch the emergence of the flowers and leaves as the wet paints mixed and merged - I guess you would call this "a happy accident"

Treasures of the Sea

I totally forgot to take a photo of this new painting before I put it in the frame so.........

this is quite a departure from most of my work but I began to paint an abstract one morning and as I worked on it, I began to see the water, sand, and rocks of a beach that I knew in the Bahamas - it's amazing how the paint knows where it needs to go - you as the painter are just the instrument through the paint gets onto the paper. Pure joy!

The painting is titled Bookie's Beach (a beach in the Abacos).

Thanks for looking,
Chris
